Not every getaway needs a packed schedule. Sometimes what you really want is a slow weekend in north Bandung: cooler air, tall trees, a coffee you can linger over and a morning with no alarm. Ciumbuleuit, a leafy neighbourhood above the city centre, suits that pace nicely.
This guide uses Aksara Hotel on Jl. Rancabentang No. 5A, Ciumbuleuit, as its base. The city centre is about 15 minutes away, depending on traffic, so Bandung stays within easy reach without you having to sleep in the middle of the bustle. The plan is deliberately loose: keep what appeals and skip the rest.
Why a Weekend in North Bandung Feels Different
North Bandung sits on higher ground, so the air tends to be cooler, especially early in the morning and after dark. The streets are lined with trees, and the mood is calmer than in the city centre, which can get very busy at weekends.
Distance is the other advantage. From Ciumbuleuit, plenty is close by: Museum Srihadi Soedarsono is about 600 m away, the Yogya Ciumbuleuit supermarket about 550 m and Cihampelas Walk about 2.8 km. That means more time unwinding and less time sitting in traffic.
Day One: Arrival, Check-In and a Slow Afternoon
Check-in is from 2 pm. If you set off in the morning, there is no need to rush, so aim to arrive after lunch. If you are early, Artisan Coffee on the 2nd floor opens at 8 am and welcomes non-residents too, so you have a comfortable spot to wait.
Once you are in your room, give yourself a pause. Make a tea or coffee with the electric kettle, refill your bottle with the free drinking water and lie down for a while. Nothing needs chasing.

Later in the afternoon, head up to the rooftop terrace at Artisan Coffee, which looks out over the trees of Ciumbuleuit. Order an Es Kopi Susu Pandan or a Butterscotch Coffee, and if you are hungry, the Nasi Goreng Merah is a favourite. Everything on the menu is halal, and there is more in our guide to Artisan Coffee.
Evening: Swimming Under the Garden Lights
The outdoor pool is open 24 hours and measures 6 x 4 m, with a depth of 1.2 m. It is made for a gentle soak or a few easy lengths rather than serious training. A swim in the cool night air, with the garden lights on, is a lovely way to end the first day.
Day Two: Morning Walk and Rooftop Coffee
Wake up when you wake up, then step out for a walk around Ciumbuleuit while the air is still fresh. The streets here are shaded, and mornings are usually quieter than the middle of the day. Wear comfortable shoes, as some roads in north Bandung climb quite steeply.
For something greener and more open, Dago, Punclut and Taman Hutan Raya Ir. H. Djuanda are all worth considering. We cover them in our guide to nature in north Bandung. On a slow weekend, one of them is plenty.
Do note that room rates do not currently include breakfast. After your walk, you can drop into Artisan Coffee from 8 am for coffee, pastries or a main course and take it out onto the terrace.
You can spend the rest of the morning reading on the terrace, taking one more dip in the pool or simply enjoying your room before check-out. It is these unplanned moments that make a weekend feel properly slow.
A Loose Two-Day Plan
Here is a framework you can bend however you like. Think of it as a suggested order rather than a timetable.
- Saturday afternoon: arrive, check in from 2 pm and rest in your room.
- Saturday, late afternoon: coffee and something small on the Artisan rooftop.
- Saturday evening: an easy dinner, then a soak in the 24-hour pool.
- Sunday morning: a walk around Ciumbuleuit or a visit to one nearby green spot.
- Sunday, late morning: one last coffee, pack up and check out by noon.
- Sunday afternoon: stop by Museum Srihadi Soedarsono or browse Ciwalk before heading home.
Arriving on Friday? Artisan Coffee stays open until 11 pm on Fridays and Saturdays, so there is still time for a last drink after you check in.
Tip: weekends and school holidays tend to bring heavier traffic to Bandung. Leaving a little earlier, or once the busiest hours have passed, can make the journey feel much lighter.
Choosing a Room for a Slow Weekend
For two, a King Room with one king bed is ideal and sleeps up to two adults and one child. Travelling with friends or family? The 2 Queen Room has two queen beds and is ideal for four guests, while the Family Room with Bunkbed has one king bed plus bunk beds for two children or adults.
Every room has air conditioning, Wi-Fi, a smart TV, a hot shower, a mini fridge and a safe. A hair dryer and iron are available on request at the front desk. Compare the rooms side by side on the rooms page.
Ready to Take Bandung a Little Slower?
A slow weekend in north Bandung does not need a complicated plan: a comfortable room, a coffee with a view of the trees and time to actually rest. Everything else can be decided on the day.
