A family break doesn't have to mean a long drive, a packed schedule and tired children in the back seat. A family staycation in north Bandung gives everyone a change of scene without the fuss: cooler air, the city centre about 15 minutes away (depending on traffic), and most of what you need under one roof.

This guide gathers family staycation ideas at Aksara Hotel in Ciumbuleuit: choosing a room, pool time, coffee at Artisan, photos in the retro lobby and a movie night in your room. You will also find a packing list and some booking tips.

Choosing the Right Room for a Family Staycation

Families usually choose between two room categories, each suited to a slightly different group.

Family Room with Bunkbed

This room has one king bed plus bunk beds for two children or two adults. Children tend to love having a bunk of their own, while parents keep the comfort of the king bed. The room type is the Aksara Suite, and you can see the details on the Family Room page.

2 Queen Room

If your children are a little older, or the grandparents are coming along, the 2 Queen Room has two queen beds and is ideal for four guests. The room types are the Executive Room and the Royal Suite Twin.

Every room has air conditioning, Wi-Fi, a smart TV, a hot shower, toiletries, a mini fridge, a safe and an electric kettle with tea and coffee. Drinking water refills are free.

Pool Time That Fits Your Family's Rhythm

The outdoor pool is open 24 hours and measures 6 x 4 m, with a depth of 1.2 m. Because it never closes, you can swim whenever suits the children: in the afternoon after check-in, or one last time in the morning before you pack.

At 1.2 m, the water is deep for younger children, so stay in the pool with them and bring armbands or a float if needed. Ciumbuleuit can feel cool in the evening, so keep a change of clothes and a warm layer close by. A hair dryer is available on request at the front desk.

Drinks, Snacks and Meals at Artisan

Artisan Coffee sits on the 2nd floor, with a rooftop terrace looking out over the trees of Ciumbuleuit. Parents can order an Es Kopi Susu Pandan or a Butterscotch Coffee while the children choose a non-coffee drink and a pastry. The whole menu is halal, and main courses such as Nasi Goreng Merah work well for lunch or dinner.

Artisan is open from 8 am to 10 pm Sunday to Thursday, and until 11 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Room rates do not include breakfast at the moment, so plan your mornings: head up to Artisan once it opens, or try a classic Bandung breakfast out in the city.

Photo Spots in the Retro Lounge

The lobby is styled in retro mid-century fashion, with maroon and orange tones, convex mirrors, leather sofas and colourful corners in the lounge. Children usually love pulling faces in the convex mirrors. More ideas are in our photo tips for a staycation.

A Family Movie Night in Your Room

After a swim and dinner, wind down with a film together. Every room has a smart TV, so make a list of family films before you leave and check that you remember the login for your usual streaming service (and sign out before check-out).

Yogya Ciumbuleuit supermarket, about 550 m away, is handy for fruit, milk and favourite snacks to keep in the mini fridge. To make the evening feel special:

  • Pick two or three age-appropriate films and let the children choose the order.
  • Set out snacks and drinks before the film starts.
  • Dim the lights and pile up the pillows for a small cinema feel.

What to Pack for the Children

A short stay feels lighter when the children's things are packed well. Worth bringing:

  • Swimwear, armbands or a float, and a change of clothes
  • A light jacket or jumper for the cooler north Bandung air
  • Refillable water bottles for the free drinking water refills
  • Personal medicines, plasters and the creams they normally use
  • Small toys, books or crayons for quiet time in the room
  • Flip-flops for the pool and a bag for wet clothes

For emergencies, RSAU Dr. M. Salamun hospital is about 550 m away. For a fuller list, see our staycation packing checklist.

Book Direct and Share Your Special Requests

Booking directly on the website lets you compare room types and rates in one place, then pay by virtual account, QRIS, e-wallet or card. Confirmation arrives by email.

Have special requests, such as needs for a baby or an older family member? Send us a message on WhatsApp before you arrive so the team can tell you what is possible. If your plans might change, the "Room only" rate offers free cancellation according to its policy, while "Room only, saver" costs less but is non-refundable. Valet parking is available if you are driving.

Check-in is from 2 pm and check-out is by 12 noon, so you can plan an unhurried final morning.

A family staycation doesn't need to be complicated: a comfortable room, a pool you can use at any hour, coffee at Artisan and a film before bed. Choose the room that suits your family, pick your dates, and let this short break become the one the children ask to repeat.
