A staycation should feel easy, and that includes the packing. Yet many people still arrive with a bulging suitcase, only to realise something important has been left at home. A good staycation packing list helps you bring just what you need, with no fuss on the road or in your room.

This list is written for a stay at Aksara Hotel in Ciumbuleuit, north Bandung, where the air is cooler than in the city centre. We have also listed what is already waiting in your room, so you know exactly what you can leave behind.

Clothes for Cool North Bandung

Ciumbuleuit sits in north Bandung, where the air is noticeably cooler, especially in the evenings and early mornings. Layers are the answer: comfortable during the day, warm enough once the temperature drops.

  • A light jacket, cardigan or hoodie for evenings and early mornings.
  • T-shirts and casual clothes that are easy to mix and match.
  • Long trousers for trips to higher areas such as Lembang or Punclut.
  • Comfortable walking shoes, plus sandals for padding around the hotel.
  • A compact umbrella or a light rain jacket, especially in the rainy season.

To keep your bag in check, plan outfits by day: one for going out, one for lounging at the hotel and something comfortable to sleep in. For a two-night staycation, three sets of clothes is usually plenty.

Swimwear for the 24-Hour Pool

Do not forget your swimwear. The outdoor pool at Aksara Hotel is open 24 hours and measures 6 x 4 m with a depth of 1.2 m, so you can swim before a morning out or unwind in the water after dark.

As north Bandung is fairly cool, pack something warm to change into after your swim. For children, bring their favourite armbands or goggles, and keep an eye on them while they are in the pool.

What Your Room Already Has

The good news is that you can pack lighter. Every room at Aksara Hotel comes with:

  • Air conditioning and Wi-Fi
  • A smart TV
  • A hot shower and toiletries
  • A mini fridge for drinks and snacks
  • A safe for valuables
  • An electric kettle with tea and coffee
  • Free drinking water refills

A hair dryer and an iron are available on request from the front desk, so neither needs a place in your bag. Just bring a reusable water bottle to make the most of the free drinking water refills during your stay.

The kettle with tea and coffee is perfect for a warm drink on a cool morning. As room rates do not include breakfast at the moment, you might bring a favourite morning snack, or head up to Artisan Coffee on the 2nd floor, which opens at 8 am.

Your Staycation Packing List for Tech and Personal Items

These small things are the easiest to forget and the most annoying to be without. Tick them off before you leave:

  • Chargers for your phone, laptop and smartwatch.
  • A power bank for long days out in the city.
  • A spare cable, as cables are very easy to leave in the socket.
  • Your identity document (ID card or passport) and the confirmation email with your booking code.
  • Any personal medication and the vitamins you usually take.
  • Your skincare, moisturiser and lip balm.
  • Sun cream and sunglasses for days outdoors.
  • A payment card or e-wallet for snacks and shopping.

Visiting from abroad? Indonesia uses two-pin round plugs (types C and F), so pack an adapter if yours are different. While you are out, keep valuables in the room safe.

Tip: pack a small separate bag with your swimwear, a change of clothes and your chargers. If you arrive before check-in at 2 pm, it lets you settle in without having to open your suitcase.

Extras for Families with Children

  • Snacks and the children's own water bottles.
  • A few small toys or books for quiet time in the room.
  • One or two spare changes of clothes.
  • Children's swim gear, including a favourite small towel if they like one.

Leave Room for Souvenirs

Bandung is known for its food gifts and factory outlets. Rumah Mode is about 1.9 km from the hotel and Cihampelas Walk about 2.8 km, so do not be surprised if your bag comes home fuller than it left. A foldable tote makes carrying your shopping much easier.

The mini fridge in your room is handy for drinks or snacks you pick up while exploring. And if you have forgotten an essential, the Yogya Ciumbuleuit supermarket is only about 550 m from the hotel.

Ready to Pack for Your Staycation

With a light jacket, swimwear, chargers and your personal items, you are all set for a staycation in north Bandung. Everything else, from the kettle to the toiletries, is already waiting in your room.
