Three days sounds short, but it is enough to get a proper feel for Bandung as long as you do not cram the schedule. This Bandung itinerary for 3 days and 2 nights mixes the cool air of north Bandung, the heritage buildings of the city centre and a little shopping, at a pace that is actually realistic.
We use Aksara Hotel in Ciumbuleuit as the base. From here, Gedung Sate is about 4.8 km away, Cihampelas Walk about 2.8 km and Paris Van Java about 3.3 km. The city centre is about 15 minutes away, depending on traffic.
How to Pace a Bandung Itinerary
Bandung traffic can be heavy, particularly at weekends, during school holidays and at rush hour. So plan one area per half day rather than five sights in a row. Time lost in traffic is usually more tiring than time spent on foot.
- Group places by area so you are not criss-crossing the city.
- Start early for nature spots, while the air is cool and the roads are quieter.
- Leave some empty time each day for rest, rain or a spontaneous detour.
- Check current opening times for museums and attractions before you set off.
Travelling with children or older parents? Trim the list further. Two places enjoyed calmly beat five places seen in a hurry.
Day 1: Arrival, Check-In and Easy Shopping
Check-in is from 2 pm, so the first day suits lighter plans. Once you have dropped your bags and rested a little, head to Cihampelas Walk or Paris Van Java, two malls close to Ciumbuleuit. Both have plenty of places to eat, which makes the first dinner easy. If you arrive earlier, Artisan Coffee on the 2nd floor opens at 8 am and is open to the public, so you have somewhere comfortable to wait over a coffee.
For clothes shopping, the Rumah Mode factory outlet is about 1.9 km away, and our guide to staying near Ciwalk and Paris Van Java has more ideas. Back at the hotel, end the day with a dip in the 24-hour outdoor pool or a warm drink at Artisan Coffee, open until 10 pm (11 pm on Fridays and Saturdays).
Day 2: North Bandung Nature and the Heritage Centre
Morning: Cool Air in North Bandung
Room rates do not currently include breakfast. You can call in at Artisan Coffee from 8 am, or try a typical Bandung breakfast out in the city. Then choose one nature spot: Taman Hutan Raya Ir. H. Djuanda for a walk under tall trees, or Punclut for views over the city.

If you want sunrise at Tebing Keraton, you will need to leave before dawn. It is worth it, but it makes for a long day, so consider heading back to the hotel for a rest before lunch. All the options are in our guide to nature in north Bandung.
Afternoon: Gedung Sate, Braga and Asia Afrika
Head down into the centre after lunch. Start around Gedung Sate, the historic building that houses the West Java governor's office and has become a symbol of Bandung, then walk to Museum Geologi nearby. Its rocks, fossils and displays on Indonesian geology work well for children too.
Towards late afternoon, move on to Jalan Braga, a street of old buildings that is made for wandering. From there, the Asia Afrika area, home to Museum Konferensi Asia Afrika and Alun-Alun Bandung, is within walking distance. It can get very busy at weekends, so expect a lively atmosphere.
For dinner, the city centre has plenty of classic Bandung food, from batagor to mie kocok. Sundanese dishes such as nasi timbel are easy to find too. Afterwards, head back up to Ciumbuleuit and enjoy the cooler evening air.
Day 3: Slow Morning, Easy Trip Home
Keep the last day light. Enjoy the morning in the 24-hour pool or on the Artisan rooftop with its view of the Ciumbuleuit trees, then pack without rushing. Check-out is by noon.
After checking out, you could visit Museum Srihadi Soedarsono, about 600 m away, or pick up food gifts before you leave. Local favourites such as peuyeum, crisps and biscuits are easy to find in souvenir shops all over the city.
Stasiun Bandung is about 6 km away if you are taking the train, and the Pasteur toll gate about 7 km if you are driving. Allow extra time, as traffic towards the toll road and the station can be heavy on Sunday afternoons.
Tip: keep a rainy-day back-up, such as a museum or a mall. Afternoon showers are common in Bandung, especially during the rainy season.
