Bandung never loses its appeal: cooler air, nature on the northern edge of the city and a food scene that seems to go on forever. That is exactly why it gets busy, especially at weekends and during the holidays. Knowing the best time to book a hotel in Bandung helps you secure the room you want at a rate that fits your plans.

This guide looks at the usual busy and quiet periods, when to book and how to pick the right rate plan. With a little planning, your trip to Bandung can feel far more relaxed.

Weekends: Busy and Quick to Fill Up

Bandung is a popular weekend escape, so Friday and Saturday nights tend to be the most sought after and rooms can go quickly. Weekend rates can also be higher than those on weekdays.

Traffic tends to be heavier too, especially heading into north Bandung and Lembang. If you still prefer a weekend, book a few weeks ahead and set off early. Check-in is from 2 pm, so you can fit in lunch before you arrive at the hotel.

If you can, arrive on Thursday evening. One extra night before the city gets busy gives you a more relaxed start to enjoy the hotel and the area around it. Coming by train, Stasiun Bandung is about 6 km from the hotel, while drivers can come off the toll road at the Pasteur toll gate, about 7 km away.

Long Weekends and School Holidays

Long weekends, school holidays, Lebaran, Christmas and New Year are usually among the busiest times in Bandung. Many families plan these trips well in advance, so it pays to do the same. If you need space for the family, such as a 2 Queen Room or a Family Room with Bunkbed, book early so your choice is still there.

Periods worth booking well ahead for:

  • Weekends that run into a public holiday or a collective leave day (cuti bersama).
  • School holidays, including the end of the school year and semester breaks.
  • Lebaran, Christmas and New Year.
  • Graduation at Unpar, just about 200 m from the hotel: book as soon as the date is announced. Our guide to a hotel near Unpar in Bandung has more.

For periods like these, book as far ahead as you can, as soon as your travel dates are confirmed.

Weekdays: Calmer and More Flexible

If your schedule is flexible, a weekday stay (Sunday to Thursday nights) can be a real treat. The city tends to feel calmer, the roads are not as busy as at weekends and you usually have more choice of rooms.

Weekdays also suit a workcation or a slow staycation. Enjoy the pool, which is open 24 hours, a coffee on the Artisan Coffee rooftop terrace, or a visit to Taman Hutan Raya Ir. H. Djuanda, which tends to be quieter outside the weekend. Do check the latest opening hours before you go. Bringing the laptop? Read our workcation tips for Bandung.

When Is the Best Time to Book a Hotel in Bandung?

As a rule, the busier the period, the earlier you should book. For an ordinary weekend, aim to book at least a few weeks ahead. For long weekends and the holiday season, book as soon as your dates are firm.

Booking early also gives you time to choose the room category that really suits you, rather than whatever is left. Our guide to choosing the right room can help you decide, whether you are travelling as a couple or with the whole family.

One more tip: check availability for a few alternative dates. Moving your trip a day earlier or later can sometimes open up more choice of rooms, especially around long weekends.

Choose a Rate Plan That Matches Your Plans

When you book well ahead, plans can change. Choose your rate plan with that in mind:

  • Room only: free cancellation according to its policy, ideal if your dates might move.
  • Room only, saver: cheaper but non-refundable, best when your plans are fixed.

Booking for a group or a large family? Schedules tend to shift more easily, so Room only gives you a safer margin. For a short trip with dates locked in, on the other hand, the saver plan can be the more economical choice.

Before you book, check the Offers page for any current promotions. If you sign in when booking, you can get a special web price when one is on. Bear in mind that room rates do not currently include breakfast.

Plan Early, Stay Relaxed

The secret to a comfortable Bandung break is good timing. Decide whether you want the buzz of a weekend or the calm of a weekday, then book as early as you can for the holidays. Choose your dates now and book direct on the Aksara Hotel website to see which rooms are available.
