Working away from home has become part of normal life for many people, and Bandung makes a very pleasant place to do it. A workcation in Bandung gives you a change of scene without stepping away from your job: online meetings in the morning, then a swim or a coffee beneath the trees of Ciumbuleuit once the laptop is closed.
The trick is good preparation and a steady routine. Here are practical tips to keep your working days productive while you stay at Aksara Hotel, while still making the trip feel like a proper break.
Sort Out Your Connection Before You Go
Every room at Aksara Hotel has Wi-Fi, so you can open your laptop as soon as you check in. That said, every job has different needs. If you are often on video calls or uploading large files, it is sensible to have a backup plan:
- Bring enough mobile data to use your phone as a backup hotspot.
- Download important documents before you travel so you can work offline if needed.
- Pack chargers, a spare cable and a small extension lead if you carry several devices.
- Bring a headset with a microphone so you sound clearer in online meetings.
When you arrive, connect your devices and make a quick test call before your first meeting. If anything is not working, the front desk is open 24 hours.
Choose a Quiet Room and Set Up Your Desk
For a smooth workcation in Bandung, choose a room that suits the way you work. Working solo, a King Room with one king bed is usually plenty. Travelling with a colleague, a 2 Queen Room with two queen beds gives you both more space. You can compare them on the Rooms page.
When you book, use the special requests field to ask for a quiet room. We will do our best, although special requests are not guaranteed. Once you are settled in, make the most of natural light: working near the window feels far nicer during the day.

The room helps too. There is an electric kettle with tea and coffee for quick breaks, a mini fridge for snacks, free drinking water refills and a safe for your devices when you head out. If you need a pressed shirt for a video call, just ask the front desk for an iron.
Work from Artisan Coffee for a Change of Scene
Tired of the same four walls? Head up to Artisan Coffee on the 2nd floor. This mid-century coffee shop has a rooftop terrace looking out over the trees of Ciumbuleuit, a lovely spot for clearing emails or sketching out ideas.
Artisan is open 8 am to 10 pm Sunday to Thursday, and 8 am to 11 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. The menu covers coffee and non-coffee drinks, light bites, pastries and main courses, all halal. Keep yourself going with an Es Kopi Susu Pandan or a Butterscotch Coffee, then order a Nasi Goreng Merah at lunchtime. For more, read our guide to Artisan Coffee at the hotel.
As Artisan is open to the public too, be a considerate guest: charge your laptop before you go, use a headset for calls and save long work sessions for quieter hours.
Keep a Routine to Stay Productive
The biggest challenge of any workcation is keeping work and holiday apart. Set a simple schedule on day one and stick to it, just as you would at the office:
- Start with a gentle walk around Ciumbuleuit, then eat at Artisan from 8 am, as room rates do not currently include breakfast.
- Tackle the tasks that need real focus in the morning, while your mind is fresh.
- Book meetings for later on, once your connection and devices have been tested.
- Close the laptop at the time you set, and keep the evening for yourself.
For snacks or supplies, the Yogya Ciumbuleuit supermarket is only about 550 m from the hotel. Remember that check-in is from 2 pm and check-out is by 12 noon, so schedule any meetings on your last day before you leave the room. Our check-in and check-out guide has more detail.
Take Breaks by the Pool in the Cool Ciumbuleuit Air
Good breaks make for better work. The outdoor pool at Aksara Hotel is open 24 hours, measuring 6 x 4 m and 1.2 m deep. A short swim between tasks, or once the laptop is shut, is a refreshing way to reset.
The cooler air of north Bandung is a bonus too. Step outside for a few minutes, breathe in the fresh air and return to your desk with a clearer head. The city centre is about 15 minutes away, depending on traffic, so heading out for dinner or a client meeting is easy.
Fancy a short walk to clear your head? Museum Srihadi Soedarsono is only about 600 m from the hotel, a pleasant change of pace between working sessions. Check the latest opening hours before you go.
