Once you have found the right room, the next step often gives people pause: choosing a hotel rate plan. The same room can appear at two different prices, and the difference lies not in the room itself but in the cancellation terms attached to it. Understanding this before you pay can spare you a good deal of regret later on.
At Aksara Hotel in Bandung there are two rate plans: "Room only" and "Room only, saver". Both give you the same room with the same facilities. This guide explains how they differ, when each one makes sense and what to check before you press pay.
Two Hotel Rate Plans at Aksara Hotel
A rate plan is the set of terms that comes with the room you book. Crucially, the rate does not change the room you get: the bed, the facilities, check-in from 2 pm and check-out by 12 noon all stay the same. For any given room, you can choose one of the two rates below.
Room Only: The Flexible Choice
"Room only" offers free cancellation according to its cancellation policy. If your plans change and you cancel within the terms of that policy, you will not be charged. It costs more than the saver rate, and that difference is essentially the price of flexibility.
Room Only, Saver: The Cheaper Choice
"Room only, saver" is cheaper, but it is non-refundable. If you cancel, the amount you have paid will not be returned. It is aimed at travellers whose dates are fixed and who would rather keep more of their budget.
It is also worth knowing that neither rate plan includes breakfast. If you would like to start the day at the hotel, Artisan Coffee on the 2nd floor opens at 8 am with coffee, pastries and main courses.

When Room Only Makes Sense
The flexible rate is worth choosing whenever something is still uncertain. For example:
- You are booking well in advance and your work or school timetable has not been confirmed.
- Your trip depends on something else, such as a family occasion, a graduation date or a work commitment.
- You are travelling as a group and not everyone has confirmed yet.
- You are visiting in the rainy season and want the option to adjust your plans if the weather turns.
- You are not yet sure how many nights you want to stay.
In situations like these, the extra cost works like a small insurance policy. If your plans change, you can still cancel free of charge, provided you do so within the policy.
When Room Only, Saver Makes Sense
The saver rate makes sense once your dates are locked in. Perhaps you already hold train tickets to Bandung, your annual leave has been approved, or you are planning a weekend staycation that simply will not move.
It also suits short-notice trips, such as a staycation booked for tomorrow or the day after. With so little time before you arrive, there is usually less room for plans to change.
With this rate, you pay less for exactly the same room. The saving can go towards other parts of the trip, such as an Es Kopi Susu Pandan at Artisan Coffee or an afternoon exploring Bandung's food scene.
One important note: double-check your dates, number of guests and room category before paying, because this rate cannot be refunded.
Read the Cancellation Policy Before You Pay
Whichever rate you choose, take a minute to read our cancellation policy. It sets out the cancellation terms for our room rates, so you know exactly where you stand if your plans change.
When you choose a rate on the website, look out for the cancellation details shown with each rate as well. If you need to cancel or simply have a question, our team can help on WhatsApp; have your booking code to hand.
Before you press pay, run through this quick check:
- Your check-in and check-out dates match your plans.
- The number of adults, children and rooms is correct.
- You have selected the rate you meant to, Room only or Room only, saver.
- You have read the cancellation details for that rate.
On the website, both rates can be paid in the same ways: virtual account, QRIS, e-wallet or card. Your confirmation arrives by email, and you can view your booking at any time on the Manage Booking page.
Not sure which to pick? If your dates might still change, choose Room only. If your dates are certain and you would like to save, Room only, saver is worth considering.
More Ways to Make Your Stay Good Value
Beyond choosing the right rate, a few simple habits help your budget go further:
- Sign in to your account before booking, as guests who sign in can get a special web price when one is on.
- Check the Offers page to see whether anything is available for your dates.
- Book directly through the website, as explained in our guide to booking directly on the Aksara website.
- Check you have the right room category for your group first, with our guide to choosing the right hotel room.
Choose the Rate That Fits Your Plans
In the end, choosing a hotel rate plan is about weighing certainty against flexibility. Plans still taking shape? Room only gives you breathing space. Plans set in stone? Room only, saver helps you save.
Pick your room and dates, compare the two rates on offer, then read the policy before you pay. If anything is unclear, our team is happy to help on WhatsApp.
